Photoinitiator, also known as photosensitizer or photocuring agent, is a kind of photoinitiator that can absorb certain wavelength energy in ultraviolet region (250-420nm) or visible region (400-800nm). It produces free radicals, cations, etc., which initiate monomer polymerization and crosslinking of cured compounds.
An ideal photoinitiator should have the following advantages:
(1) Cheap and simple to synthesize;
(2) photoinitiator and its photocracking products should be non-toxic and tasteless;
(3) Good stability, convenient for long-term storage;
(4) The absorption spectrum of the photoinitiator must match the emission band of the radiation source, and has a high molar extinction coefficient;
(5) Because most of the photoinitiator molecules after absorbing light energy transition to the excited singlet state, through the intersystem jumping to the excited triplet state, therefore, the initiator intersystem jumping efficiency must be high;
(6) Higher initiation efficiency.
2-propenoic acid 4-benzoylphenyl ester is a photoinitiator with all of the above characteristics. It has good stability, easy to store, high molar extinction coefficient and high initiation efficiency.
